Natural Remedies for the
Bacterial Intruder
There's nothing worse that the discomfort and annoyance that a urinary tract infection causes. The fact that you got one is bad enough. But to get them repeatedly is worse.
First, visit your healthcare provider for antibiotic therapy. In the future, consider these natural suggestons to ward off the evil UTI.
- Try uva ursi or pipsissewa Studies have shown that uva ursi's active compound has an antibacterial effect on the urinary system. Although there is less research about pipsissewa it has the same active compound and appears to be easier on your stomach. Dose: Take 2 to 3 ml of an uva ursi or pipsissewa tincture three times a day until the UTI clears.
- Try accupuncture to help with the pain and stress associated with a UTI and build up your immunity at the same time. Make your sessions two times per week for a month to prevent future UTIs.
- Swig cranberry juice. Tannins in the juice preven bacteria from adhering to the bladder and urethral wall. Dose: Drink at least one 8-ounce glass of pure juice or cocktail a day, preferably at bedtime. Or take a cranberry tablet once or twice a day.
- Try D-Mannose to treat your next UTI and stay on a maintenance dose indefinitely.

Treat Incontinence
There are a variety of treatment options to treat or reduce the symptoms of incontinence. Making certain dietary changes such as eliminating spicy foods, sweet foods containing citrus fruits and tomato based sauces can improve urinary incontinence. Reduce your intake of alcoholic, carbonated and caffeinated beverages.
Incontinence is always a symptom of an underlying condition such as a bladder infection, enlarged prostate or another disease. You should seek medical advice prior to trying natural remedies.
Herbal Treatments:
- Buchu – this herb is soothing and antiseptic. It is especially useful for the urinary system.
- Crateva nurvalathis – this herb can can improve bladder health.
- Corn silk – this herb is a natural diuretic and soothes the urinary tract.
- Horsetail – this herb is astringent and heals tissue that has been traumatized. It is also a mild diuretic. Horsetail tea can help strengthen the connective tissues and help restore the urinary system.
- Marshmallow root – this herb is known for its soothing properties. Taken as a cold infusion, it does wonders for the urinary tract. Soak the herb in cold water for several hours before straining out the root. Drink as needed.
- Usnea – this herb is a natural antiseptic and it soothes the tissues.
- Devil's claw – this herb will strengthen the bladder so it can hold urine until it is possible to empty it.
- Dandelion – this herb strengthens the kidneys and helps cleanse the urinary tract.
- Parsley – this herb helps with nervous tension, which may be a cause of incontinence. Add parsley to the diet or take a supplement or tea.
- Skullcap – this herb soothes the nerves and may be helpful with incontinence.
- St. John's wort – this herb is known for its usefulness with easing the nerves.
External Treatments:
- Valerian – this herb can be applied topically in a mixture containing lemon balm, thyme, tormentil and uva ursi. These herbs are missed into carrier oil and massaged on the lower abdomen 2-3 times a day.
- Hayflower – apply as a compress from moist and hot hayflower to the areas above the kidney and bladder.
- Chamomile – prepare a sitz bath with chamomile, oat straw and horsetail to stimulate the circulation in the urinary system. Be sure to make enough. Each sitz bath requires from 3 to 5 quarts of herbal infusion.
Internal Treatments:
- Vaginal cones often make pelvic floor exercising more effective. These are weights that are inserted into the vagina and held in place for about 5 minutes at a time. As the pelvic floor muscles grow stronger, the weight is increased.
- Electrical Stimulation is used for pelvic floor development by placing electrodes or a probe into the vagina. Electrical impulses stimulate the muscles, causing them to passively contract.
