Welcome to the Woodbury Health Center. My name is Robin Howe. I am a Continence Nurse Specialist and the Clinical Director for Woodbury Health Products. My mission is to provide support to the millions of Americans who suffer with incontinence, often in silence and shame. As a clinician, I hope to facilitate a healthier way of thinking about incontinence and to remove the taboo associated with it in America.
What is a Continence Nurse Specialist?
Continence Nurse Specialists can identify causes, create treatment plans and empower patients with incontinence to be involved in all aspects of their care. A Continence Nurse Specialist often practices Pelvic Floor Muscle Treatment with patients, which is a non-surgical therapy that helps to decrease or stop incontinence. It involves an evaluation of your muscle strength and bladder/bowel habits and a treatment program based on the evaluation findings. Pelvic Floor Muscle Treatment programs will usually help you learn proper habits and techniques to control urgency and/or leakage and gain an understanding of normal bladder and bowel functions.

Some of the management and treatment plans that a Continence Nurse Specialist may implement include:

  •      Pelvic floor fitness program with bands, fitness balls and more
  •      Behavioral pelvic muscle training with or without pelvic floor biofeedback
  •      Gentle pelvic floor electrical stimulation
  •      Vaginal weight training
  •      Bladder training
  •      Habit training
  •      Dietary management
  •      Absorbent product fits, if needed
  •      Self-catheterization techniques, if needed
  •      Counseling sessions
I received my nursing degree from the University of Portland, Oregon in 1994. With years of clinical experience, I realize the impact and importance of the support I can provide to people living with incontinence.
